Below is a statement from the Last Chance Alliance on the recent murders of countless Black people by police, including George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and countless others. We stand in solidarity with protesters and communities with the Black Lives Matter movement and the Movement for Black Lives:

We stand in solidarity with Black communities in protesting to defend Black life.
We are following Black leadership in demanding justice for the Black people murdered by police. We also demand our cities and states build new systems that value and protect Black life with investment in Black communities, determined by Black communities, and divestment from exploitative forces including police, prisons, surveillance and fossil fuels.

We know that the mainstream environmental movement has historically been majority white and complicit in the oppression of Black voices.
Last Chance Alliance does not tolerate that and actively works to be anti-racist. Our mission of ending fossil fuel production in California is dedicated to following and amplifying the leadership of frontline communities of color fighting for racial, social, gender, environmental and economic justice.

#BlackLivesMatter. We will continue to listen to our Black members and partners in frontline communities and at the front lines of these protests. We will fight alongside them to build a better system where Black life is respected, valued and protected.

We also stand in solidarity with the Movement for Black Lives (M4BL), endorse its demands and the M4BL week of action. Join them in solidarity here: https://m4bl.org/week-of-action/
